His Beatitude Sviatoslav visited graduates
from the Ukrainian school
and sisters of St. Basil in USA
On Friday May 10, 2019 Father and Head of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav met with graduates of our Ukrainian school and paid a visit to the General Province of sisters of St. Basil in the USA. His Beatitude wondered about their lives and activity in the USA and told about the actual situation in Ukraine and the Church.
Head of the UGCC was accompanied by Bishop Andriy Rabiy, Apostolic administrator of Philadelphia Archeparchy, Fr. Andriy Maksymovych, administrator of the Patriarchal Curia of UGCC and Fr. Volodymyr Malchyn, Head of the Department of charitable projects of the Patriarchal Curia.
Before entering a school, the graduates traditionally greeted the honorable guests with bread and salt. Having taken a picture together, they had an opportunity for an informal conversation, while what His Beatitude Sviatoslav asked students about their experience of studying at school and their plans for the future.
The guests brought up a topic concerning a war in Ukraine. “War wounds not a body only but a soul too”, says the major Archbishop of the UGCC. – Our defenders are going through some difficulties and that is why they are not ready to consult psychologists. Hence, priests can help them, mainly by being that kind of an ambulance”.
His Beatitude Sviatoslav also mentioned about a program set by the UGCC that helps mothers of deceased militaries and told about the hardships of wives who have lost their husbands in the war.
At the end of the meeting students received a present, a book “Dialogue Heals Wounds” bought for them by community “Saint Sophia” and a parent committee.
Later Head of the Church visited the General Province of sisters of St. Basil in the USA. Here sisters together with their superior met the guests and invited them for a festive dinner.
“I thank you for your hospitality, unity and ability to feel the presence of the living God in here. Thank you for prayers and ask you to pray on for Ukraine and Ukrainians”, addressed the sisters His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

У міжнародному аеропорту м. Ньюарк Главу УГКЦ зустрічали владика Андрій Рабій, Апостольський адміністратор Філадельфійської архиєпархії, та д-р Ірина Іванкович, голова 
Мета візиту Блаженнішого Святослава – участь в урочистостях з нагоди 45-ліття Товариства «Свята Софія» США, які відбуватимуться 11 травня в Українському освітньо-культурному центрі в Дженкінтаун. Головною подією святкування буде святковий бенкет, який відбудеться в суботу і розпочнеться о 18.00. Під час бенкету буде офіційно повідомлено про відновлення діяльності Патріаршого фонду. Цей фонд було відкрито у 1977 році з нагоди святкування 85-ліття з дня народження і 60-ліття священства Блаженнішого Йосифа.
On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, seven students of St. Basil Academy in Jenkintown, PA participated in the poetry recital contest honoring Ivan Franko (1856-1916) organized and sponsored by the St. Sophia Religious Association of Ukrainian Catholics, Inc., in Philadelphia.
У четвер, 11 квітня, в рамках весняного семестру викладів Релігійного Товариства українців католиків «Свята Софія» США та Осередку праці Наукового Товариства ім. Шевченка у Філадельфії відбулася лекція Марти Богачевської-Хом’як «Від екзархату до митрополії: п’ять вирішальних кроків Митрополита Константина Богачевського». Свою доповідь прелегент побудувала на авторській книзі “Ukrainian Bishop, American Church. Constantine Bohachevsky and the Ukrainian Catholic Church”. Книга побачила світ у видавництві Католицького університету Америки. У ній авторка між іншим намагалася дати відповідь на питання, які досі не знаходили відповідного висвітлення.
У четвер, 4 квітня, в рамках весняного семестру викладів Релігійного Товариства українців католиків «Свята Софія» США (ТСС А) та Осередку праці НТШ А у Філадельфії відбувся виклад на тему «45-ліття Товариства “Свята Софія” США: події, люди, факти». Доповідь виголосила Голова ТСС А д-р Ірина Іванкович.
75-ті роковини відходу у вічність Олександра Олеся (1878-1944) відзначили у Філадельфії конкурсом декламації «О слово рідне! Орле скутий!». В суботу, 30 березня 2019 року, за ініціятиви Центру студій спадщини Патріярха Йосифа Сліпого, за підтримки Релігійного Товариства українців католиків «Свята Софія» США (ТСС А), та у співпраці з Нашою Українською Рідною Школою (НУРШ) пам’ять про одного із визначних українських письменників вшанували учні 8-12 класів, які з допомогою учителів та батьків підготували до цієї події 9 віршів з різних періодів творчости поета.
